Illustration Friday: Hierarchy

When I saw this weeks topic, I thought it would be a lot of fun to draw a bunch of different "high school-type" characters. My plan was to do about 10, but I soon realized it would take too long to paint all those. So I cut it down to something manageable... I posted the results

there is nothing like the hierarchy in which we place ourselves and others. It starts in grade school and never really ends. So many different factors...some are heredity, others are monetary, but the list is almost endless. Color of skin, color of hair, how ya talk, where you live, what cloths you wear, how much money your dad makes, who your friends are, then there is always the way you look, how smart you are, how often you choose to bath, and lets not forget how naturally coordinated you are...and there is much much more.

I guess we all need to remember that all men are created equal...not the same, just equal!

What a great approach - and such nice character work! The colors are fabulous too. Really love the commentary - too true!

And it's true!Children and teens create roles of strong hierarchy between them.

Hey, Lael: I'm trying to help Dwane set up a blog, and he referred me to yours to kind of get the drift--and I'm having a blast catching up with you! What a talent you've developed since the very first piece you did for me at NPI--you're amazing! But I've got to tell you something; you keep putting down your business concept pieces, but I think you show a fabulous talent for illustrating hard-to-illustrate concepts in an interesting and fresh way. I think they're terrific! So go, guy--and congratulations on that first free-lance commission. Dwane says HI, and I'm sure he'll call you soon--he's in the same free-lance sitch you are, since we both walked away from our jobs. (When WILL we learn not to both work for the same company? Never, apparently.) But we're pretty excited about it. (Well, I am--I gotta be me, man:)). Dwane, as you might expect, enjoyed the first unemployed day, then immediately "worked" himself into an existential frenzy of unworthiness. Life is hard when you're shy and talented--you and he should get together soon! Anyway, loved your blog, loved getting "in touch" with you through it--all the best! Ann Cude
